The More Effective Way to Crush American Fascism, and Protect American Democracy

Should the Democratic Party rely largely on Trump being thrown off the ballot or being convicted in one of the many legal cases against him to win the 2024 Election?

This is an excellent discussion in which writer Anand Giridharadas challenges the “passive consumers of legal cases” who spend an excessive amount of time watching cable television and absorbing the nuances of this or that legal case against Donald Trump.  While these cases are important in understanding Trump’s role in undermining American democracy — with little to no doubt that the legal case against Trump is very strong and his insurrectionist behavior violates the 14th Amendment — they should not monopolize our time. He suggests leaving these cases to the legal experts and focusing our efforts on more productive endeavors that yield tangible results.

Giridharadas says that we have been at it for nine years since 2015 with no resolution.  Relying upon American institutions has not paid dividends; Trump is as popular, if not more so, with his MAGA base.  He suggests a better way to channel one’s energy into defeating Trump once and for all.  The answer lies in what labor unions did very effectively in decades past and still do: organize, organize, organize!  With almost half the country’s adults either being unregistered voters or not voting in elections, a concerted and serious effort is needed to build a coalition large and strong enough to defeat Trump at the ballot box.

Doing so, he asserts, is the correct way to put American Fascism in its place — in the dustbin of history.

Diary Poll

Remember to take the diary poll.  Super Bowl XVIII is being played later today beginning at 6:30 pm ET at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Here are the Odds, Spread, and Over Under for the game.  The San Francisco 49ers are slightly favored to win the game.

Who will win the Swift Bowl?

Super Bowl odds currently show Christian McCaffrey and the 49ers (-2) as the betting favorites over Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs with the Lombardi Trophy on the line.  San Francisco opened as a -2.5 favorite over KC.  Kansas City was initially +102 on the moneyline.

The opening total for Super Bowl LVIII was 47.5 and it remains at that number at most sportsbooks.
